I have two questions that elementary teachers can answer.

How many books do you require for your students to read a month or quarter. Do you have them do an activity on the book like draw a picture or do a book talk alongside the test that they have to take. Please tell me what grade you teach and what activity you have them do, if so, can you list some of the chapter books that your students reads.
The other question I would like to ask is in upper elementary do you read a novel as a class and do activities on it? If so what books do you read?

I would like to teach Elementary school but I rather teach just one subject (Language Arts). I wouldn't want to teach High School so, that leaves me with Middle School. Can anyone tell me what it is like teaching middle school, the pros and cons of teaching middle school and do you go on fieldtrips. What do you all prefer the most: elementary or middle school?

I am looking for some tips/techniques for teaching an adult the violin. Every student I have taught has had some previous experience, but with this one we must start from the very beginning. Any advice on where to begin would be greatly appreciated.

As a "helping" teacher, I have to explain kids what they did not
understand in class.
I am a Dr in Engineering, lecturer, and have a pretty good knowledge of sciences & maths.
I am BAFFLED by what the ORDER in which they are learning "things".
IE: they are taught to resolve trigonometry problems of triangles
BEFORE understanding Pythagor's theorem... etc... WHY??????
So, I am writing on my website (www.skytargets.com) simple lessons on "things", that are available to any kid.
To cater for that superficial "knowledge" (forgotten the day after the test) and implement a form of LOGICAL progression, I need to establish a proper CURRICULUM, starting at the early age of 7-8 to the 16-18.

Please, provide me with some guidance, where kids will be learning things that are useful, and BASED ON PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE.
(Don't teach ax² + bx + c = 0 BEFORE teaching 1/2 + 6/5 - 1/3!)
If I have enough replies, I shall set-up a line on my website for this
purpose.
Thanks to you all.

You know there are some short stories that are well-known like the Canterville ghost, the happy prince ...etc. Reading these stories for students of English is quite difficult. They have some kind of simplified versions. I am seeking these easy versions. If I can get with comprehension questions, I will be grateful in deed.

I will be graduating in May and will be a future Elementary School teacher. I am willing to get up and move anywhere across the country to teach, but would like some feedback as to what states are good, bad, high salary, low salary, etc. So please in your response include your state, first-year salary, and most importantly what you think of the school systems in your area. Thanks so much!

Okay, so I am a little confused about this whole student teaching thing. What do I do on my first day? Will I be thrown right in to teach? Or do I observe? Should I bring like a notebook? What should I expect for like the first day and also the first week or so. Thanks!

What is the difference with pay from having a BS or Masters in Teaching? How hard/easy is it to find a job if you are multilingual in Russian/Spanish?

Last night was crazy time. My daughter is getting ready to do her science fair project, and yesterday her science teacher approved her project. But the teacher also told her that some kids had already finished their projects.

This put my daughter into a world-class tizzy. Her project is fairly complex, involving the growth of bacteria cultures. Some of the projects other kids are doing are less complicated and don't involve time-consuming processes, so they are quicker to do. But all my daughter sees is that she's behind others (not so, according to her teacher).

When things like this happen, she gets absolutely panic-striken and starts tearing up and getting upset, and starts pushing on us, her parents, to run around like crazy people to try to do overnight what will take a week to do.

I don't know what the source of the anxiety/panic is. We don't push her and never have. She's a high achieving perfectionist and I need help. What can I do to stop the panic/anxiety?

I have a teacher an English class who is in his 70s, retired, still teaching, and incoherent. I complained to the Dept Chair but he just looked at me blankly. Other students say I will get kicked out of the program and/or lose my scholarship if I complain.
