friendly but not to the point of being their friend. Life as a teacher is tough enough without the fear of upsetting a teenagers friendship and finding out what revenge they can think up. Kids can be really mean and cruel if they want to. And in today society the word of the teacher means not very much. It is usually what the student says that is looked at as the truth.

I wouldn't say be friendly. I am a young teacher so I really have to be careful. I start off the first month being very strict and "unfriendly". Respectful, but not friendly. You can always get nicer, but you can never get meaner. Just remember you are the adult, and you must always keep that line there. I f you don't, you may get into a tough spot when you have to discipline your new "friends".

It's ok to be nice, but not "friends". There is a certain relationship between teacher and student, and "friend" is not part of that relationship.
