Do any of you 3rd grade teachers read novels in class like Charlottes Web or do you do literature circles. Is 3rd grade too young to be doing novels as a class or literature circles?

I am an Egyptian English teacher. I teach English as a foreign language to high school students in Egypt. As you know that our native language is Arabic. My question is: is it necessary to explain the whole lessons in English? Am I allowed to use Arabic during the explanation to clarify some points? Keeping in mind that if I explained the lesson 100% in English, many students would miss some points during the class, so what is the right thing to do?

I am an ambitious 7th grade student and am thinking about going into elementary age teaching when I become older - from first to fifth grade. I have some questions for teachers of this age group:

a) What is the average salary of an elementary teacher?
b) What does a teacher have to prepare for class?
c) What is a normal schedule for an elementary school teacher?

Thank you!

And I'm talking about simple things in high school. Simply learning the difference between rational and irrational. Learning that just because an object belongs to a group, it does not mean the group necessarily takes on each property of the object. Learning that "all X is a Y" does not mean that "all Ys are Xs."
There are probably real barriers preventing logic from being a given in our schools. There are also many reasons our children continue to lag behind other industrialized nations.

Does anyone agree that logical thought should be valued? Do you believe we should teach it in highschool? Can we? What factors prevented us from already doing so nationwide?

I want to be a 3rd or 4th grade teacher when I get older so, for practice I try to teach my brother multiplication. He just doesn't get it, the work that he turns in to me is all wrong and I don't know how to teach him better. I usually get very frusterated because he doesn't get the easiest things. Does this mean I am going to be a really bad teacher when I become one?? What do you teachers do when one of your students does not understand something at all and turns in there homework all wrong? When you are a teacher do they have workbooks that teachers can look off of to teach the lesson a little better so the students will actually UNDERSTAND it? Thank you to all who answers!!

I am preparing my portfolio for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. I have found it to be a very vague and non supportive process. I know too many fellow teachers who have failed and have not been given very much feedback. If you have been or are going through the process...can you help with some advice?

I mean like 4 and 5 year olds??We'd start slowly and just slowly work our way through, like the first week ,Genesis- Deuteronomy. Then Joshua-Ruth, then 1-2 Samuel, then 1-2 King, then 1-2 Chronicles, then Ezra-Esther, Job-Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs, Isaiah and Jeremiah, Lamentations and Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habbakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi, and for the New Testament- Matthew-John, Acts-Romans,1-2Corinthians, Galatians and Ephesians, Phillipians and Colossians, 1-2Thessalonians,1-2Timothy, Titus and Philemon, Hebrews and James,1-2 Peter, 1-3 John, Jude and Revelation. Do you think this is too fast. We would review them tons and tons and tons EVERY week and then introduce new ones. I don't think it's too early, but the other teacher, (we're best friends and not adults, but i promise we're capable) thinks it is. I know they could do it, we have SMART PRESCHOOLERS in our class. I just don't know...HELP!

Does anyone know a good website that has a moral story for children on it? It can be about any story, as long as there is a good and valid moral point to it, and as long as it's for children! It has to be a website though because I've left it too late to buy a book! Thanks!

I'm a college bound junior who is interested in pursuing teaching English. I was thinking either high school, or 7th and/or 8th grade. Does any one have suggestions (from experience) of good colleges with excellent Education/English Programs. Maybe even warnings against some?
I'd be much obliged if this was from people with personal experience. Thank you.
