I am doing my A-levels at the moment at a sixth form college on the Isle of Man and will go to university in September where I want to do my degree in Sociology and English Literature, and then teacher training. Will I be allowed to live and teach in the USA?

When you go to the U.S., your academic degrees will probably be recognized but you will have to obtain state certification for teacher training for the state you decide to move to. Actually, you will have to obtain these certification as well as be offered a teaching job by an institution before you are eligible for applying for a work visa in the United States, and then physically be able to move into the U.S.. Check the information from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate-General in your country.

It is a better idea to consider obtaining U.S. work permits rather than immigration and permanent residence ("green card") because the current wait time for processing that is about 6 years.

Why shouldn't you be allowed to? If you have the right degree and the necessary experience. But I think you need some kind of certificate to teach and it varies between the states. You know, it might be valid in one state but not the other. Anyway, good luck!

Well I am sure you will have to get your green card but i don't see why not . I would go visit the place you plan on moving and visit the schools there and ask these question . Then you can better prepare your life and what you want to do to fulfill your career and dream .

Go to university in US than fight to stay here permanently. US has more teacher than they need in the good schools, which only leaves the poor schools. I have a friend who came to US and got a doctorate and now is fighting immigration to stay in US.Other choice is apply now to enter US legally, go to school and try to get in US legally. You will still have job problem unless you are strong in math or science.
