hi!
I'm teaching in Korea at the moment. I didn't bother getting a TESL certificate before I came and I think it may have been a bit of an error. If you have prior teaching experience, don't bother. If you don't have any experience, it's probably a good idea!

www.americanenglishcenter.com offer an online certificate for $275, which seems to be pretty good value.

Once you've got your certificate, there are plenty of online recruitment agencies waiting to hear from you. I had the choice of several different countries and then several different places once I'd decided on Korea. go for the best deal is my suggestion! Airfares, accommodation and a salary of about $US2 000 a month is considered good.

best of luck!

There is an interesting article on http://teaching.mygeneralknowledge.com/ that gives you a good overview on teaching English abroad and the recommended certification program.

You could teach without a TESOL or TOEFL. All you really need is a B.A. I taught in France that way. There's always advertisements to teach in Korea, China and Japan on Craigslist.

I'm teaching in Spain and it is ESSENTIAL to have a TEFL certificate. Every potential employer asks for it. Experience means less so long as you show them that you can handle anything!!
