I think the school system for our kids is getting rediculous. My son is in 3rd grade learning algebra material already! They cram schoolwork down his throat so much he is overwhelmed! He is starting to hate school already! The schools overdiagnose these kids as having "ADHD" so much now. You begin to wonder if it's just the pressure on the kids and teachers. In the state that I am from, Texas, they have TAKS testing. If the kids don't do well, they get on the teachers. The teachers are so pressured which in turn makes it difficult for the kids. They have no teachers aides and the ratio is 23 kids to one teacher! How is my kid to learn? I think our society should start looking more into the elementary and middle schools for our kids. There are too many kids on meds for ADHD these days. Our schools need to slow down a little. What is your opinion?

I teach 8th grade at a middle school that is dangerous and poorly run. I hate my job and am starting to hate the profession. What else can I do with a BS in secondary education? Good teaching jobs are almost impossible to find!

Don't known enought to even know how to begin to ask more informed question on math side. Know some of the basic laws, only interesed on what math one needs to know.

Hi, I am a first grade teacher in the inner city and this is my second year. I learned many lessons the hard way last year and this year, have a very well managed, bright group of first graders. The problem is, when I cover other classes on prep (3rd - 7th), none of the strategies I have learned to use with younger children work with the older kids. Almost every time I have done it there has been either a fight, an argument, kids running from the room, abuse of materials, and certainly no instruction taking place - just crowd control. I don't have to cover preps much but I would like to eventually teach older kids in this school, so I really want to know: what kinds of management strategies, incentives/rewards, consequences, etc. work with older inner city kids. As background, assume minimal parental involvement/follow up and somewhat lax administrative back up (i.e. reluctance to suspend kids, threats and no follow through, etc). What can I do in the classroom to reach the kids?

I have an English school in São Paulo, Brazil and am in search of ESL/EFL teachers to come to work temporary in Brazil. But where do I find them? Where are they? They do not need to be native speakers, fluent English is a must though...!

I see a lot of young girls and boys on here "shopping" for friends and signifigant others. They will say things like "I'm 15 and a girl, i really need a boyfriend in the San Diego area." or "I'm 16 and lonely, and need someone to talk to" If parents are not going to educate their children on Internet safety should the schools play a larger role.
I saw a question earlier today about whether or not teen girls get pubic hairs and what they are like...it was too graphic for just being curious and too ignorant to be taken seriously. Some young girls actually answered the question. I was shocked at how naive these girls are. Do they not realize that even when someone says he or she is under 18 that it could really be a pedophile in disguise?
Is there anything we can do about this? It's becoming more and more common for young children to be taken in by Internet preditors, it's frightening.
