Every thing should be balance!
Home work is importent but not that much that children loose more than what they acheive. They should have enough time to play, to explore them selves and work on their embitions.

Teachers give homework for a reason but it does need to be reasonable. Most schools allow that high school students should have about two hours of homework per night , Total. But that is actual WORK time, you can not add in time complaining, organizing, getting yourself psyched, talking on the phone etc. etc. It is your fault if your teaher gives you a longer assignment, due in several days and you do not work on it at all until the last day. If you really sat down to do your homework, how long would it really take?

I think there is a fine balance between the amount of work that students are supposed to have during a grading period and the amount of time the student has to complete the work in class. I don't think there are many teachers out there that enjoy giving homework, but sometimes it is a necessary evil.

I agree that children have more homework than they used to but it's only to keep up with all the things that children need to know for the No Child Left Behind act. Teachers have to cram down a ton of information set forth by their state in accordance with N.C.L.B. and unfortunately that means that teachers have to send home homework to make up for what they didn't get to in class or to reinforce something students learned in class to make sure children get the information they need. I also believe that you can reinforce topics with just a few homework questions and that some teachers assign way more than necessary.

I think homework is O.K. to a certain extent. If you have to do homework from the time school is out to bedtime to get it done...it's too much. In high school..I can sort of understand..they are getting them ready for college..In college, you ALWAYS have homework...2 hours of studying for every 1 hour in class. I think if you give a child too much homework, it will frustrate them. It also doesn't allow them to be a child and do child things.

I know many teachers, myself included, that give ample time during class to complete assignments. If you choose to have conversation with your friends or do other things during that time, then you will have a ton of homework. You need to be more clear in your question as to whether you are doing your job and working during class or are just given pages of problems to do.
