Teaching - November 2006

I have to come up with a presentation on any topic to be presented to my fellow teachers. But the topic has to be related to students, school, academic or even teachers. No need to be original because it doesn't count as long as I deliver a message to the teachers. If you can't get me a simple presentation, please give me an idea about what to present.

I want to tutor a college student. The subject is Algebra. I would like to do it remote. What's the best software to use for this. Is MS Net-Meeting good enough. Ideally it should be interactive? Is this possible?

When I graduate from college I want to teach school in Japan. Is it possible to do this without being a teacher? Without knowing Japanese? What are the positions available? Are there any positions to teach at local high schools or is it only at special English teaching schools?

any people see that if the student likes the teacher being in school myself i know if i like the teacher isnt pushing me 2 hard i will do better because i am less stressed but classes with more work i get lower grades tell me what you think i think that they should use a low pressure work while still learning will you please give me your opinion

I've thought about doing a PGCE for ages, but always allowed my mother to tell me I'd make a terrible teacher. All my friends and people I meet say they think I'd be a good teacher. I'm a "people person", I communicate well, I have experience of working with teenagers, and I love my subject (English). I'm almost a hundred percent certain that's it's the right thing to do, but I still have this little voice in my head (my mum's!) telling me I wouldn't be any good.

I am an English teacher living in China, and I am having a hard time reaching my students. All they want to do is play games that will not help increase their vocabulary or their understanding of English and they play dumb all the time even though many of them are intelligent. I could really use some advice from other teachers of English who are or have been in a similar situation. Bascially, I just need some fun, interesting lesson plan ideas that will make them want to learn English. I really want to them to leave my classroom at the end of this classroom with more knowledge than when they came into it. I'm really sick of the answer, "I don't knowa." Thanks for all your help.

I am working on a debate topic for my education class. The topic question is "Are uniforms better for schools?" I would like to know if your school has uniforms and if so how does it help? Does it help with eliminating social classes, does it help with the violence in school, do the children just act better. If you could please help me I would greatly appricate it. my major is history and minor is biology for secondary education. will that pay better than just getting a BS in Biology as a teacher for secondary education or how about as a History teacher for secondary education? which one is better and offers better benefits since i am thinking about changing my major even though i am a Junior at a university.if you can plz answer or at least help me that would be awesome! thanks
