I am working on a debate topic for my education class. The topic question is "Are uniforms better for schools?" I would like to know if your school has uniforms and if so how does it help? Does it help with eliminating social classes, does it help with the violence in school, do the children just act better. If you could please help me I would greatly appricate it. Also it would help a great deal if you had the statistics on those questions. Thank you.

Thank you for telling me that I must look this up myself I am trying to get testimony from a TEACHER, PRINCIPAL, or SCHOOL ADVISOR because that is what I need for class. I have done all the research but there are no schools around my area that wear mandatory uniforms, but thanks for the advice.

The district I am currently at has a uniform policy that is strictly enforced. I have also taught in schools where there wasn't a uniform policy. I see less social stigma when everyone is dressed in similar clothing. The behavior isn't that different, but I teach 2nd grade, so normally this grade level is pretty well behaved at least for me.

The benifit to the families is that uniforms are much less expensive and students don't have to go through the headache of deciding what to wear that morning. The decision is pretty simple.

As a parent I hated it although all my friends really liked it. The first day of school my 5yr old son slid on the sidewalk and put holes in the knees of $35 pair of "trousers" we were required to purchase. From then on I bought at the thrift store and got hand-me downs from my friend's kids. His school only allowed white shirts which show every spot. Every load, I was spot checking and bleaching. Then, after they got home from school, they want to play outside- this is double laundry- two outfits a day-play clothes and uniform! I can see it for Jr High but not pre-school and elementary school.

There are research studies trying to link the use of school uniforms to advantages such as fewer behavior problems, improved test scores due to focus on academics, budget advantages, etc.
But- you need to look this up yourself. This is your assignment-not ours. I know that there is plenty of information avaible on this topic.
