I decided that I wanted to change my major to English or Liberal Studies. The thing is, at this time I believe that I want to teach junior high English, but I don't know if that'll change. I'd like to be able to teach English with the possibility of going into primary education if I change my mind. So, do I major in English with a minor in Liberal Studies, major in Liberal Studies with a minor in English, or just pick one and stick with it? I'm worried if I minior in English, it won't be enough to get me a job teaching English, and the same goes for minoring in Liberal Studies. Anybody know anything on this subject? I'm in California, if that makes any difference.

I want to become a tattoo artist, and not because of shows like Miami Ink. I have a couple tattoo's from some different artists. The last artist I went to was really good. I asked him if anyone had apprenticed under him, and he repiled yes, and that he charged him like 8,000 dollars. This seems a bit too much. I do understand that they are training you for a career, but I've people not charging for an apprenticeship. Is this true or not and what could sway a person to not charge for an apprenticeship?

Hi. My fiance and I are thinking about teaching English overseas. I have an Honors BA in English and she is a dual honors (Arch. and History). We are hoping to go to Japan or Egypt ideally. Is this really a financially viable option. I can make $40000 a year here. I don't want to sound like this is about money, but we are young and have a lot of bills to pay, so we need something well paying.
Is the TESL certification a good way to make some money and explore the world? Is it worth it?

the other day, i caught my teacher staring at me as she walked by my desk. She just smiled, and i gave her a weird look, and looked away from her. Then today, she didn't even talk to me, even though i'm her teacher's assistant. She was talking to the class, and standing diagnally behind me, so i could see her out of the corner of my eye, and i could see that she was looking at me for a few seconds. Why would she act like she's embarrassed, even though she's a teacher, and i'm her assistant? I asked her a question, and she could barely look at me.

Ok here's the story. I am a 4th and 5th grade math teacher. One of my 4th graders has been indentified as apparently "extremely gifted" and has been pulled from my class to be in an accelerated program. So far, no problem. The catch - the gifted specialist can only be at our building 3 days a week. So this student is in my classroom on Mondays and Fridays. Our book utilizes a lot of group work and math games, and the specialist has asked that this student be allowed to participate in these events with my class. I am supposed to receive lesson plans from her for the days he is in my room - today - none, so I had to improvise. Can this work? How do I deal with this extra student who is in my room, but not in my class? How do I make this work? Can he ever actually accelerate? so far he seems to have busy work or "homework" type problems to do while he's in my room. Today I guess he was supposed to have a test, but I wasn't given it to give to him. I'm frustrated, please help.

I do not understand what the benefits of a contract are. But that is probably just because i dont really know much of what they consist of. Cna someone please explain. The reason I am so interested in this is because the teachers at my school are not coming in before school or staying after because they do not have contracts. I am not sure whether to support them or be kind of mad because they are only hurting us, the students. Please help explain! thanks!

If there are actually any real teachers here, I'd very much like to know if the rules about cheating have gone lax. What is going on here that nobody seems to have a problem with the amount of cheating going on (look at this web site alone for a perfect example)? When I was in school cheating and plagiarism were punishable with expulsion, failure and other academically deleterious punishments. Has something changed? Is it okay to cheat now? I would think it's not okay... but why do so many continue to get away with it?
