Hi all,
I am planning to serve in my local school District as a SUBSTITUTE TEACHER this year.
I have "tossed around" many - many ideas of how I should PRESENT the lessons.......... so the kids will WANT to learn.
I am advised by the local administrators and teachers "Oh, just follow the lesson plans that the teacher should leave for the class. - That's all."
I am one who "thinks outside the box" by nature. - How / if should I prepare my ideas to inspire the students to learn?
Thanks.

The technical school that I attend have bogus instructors that are not knowledgeble about the subjects, when new modules are started my instructor leaves us on our own to figure out what to do with it. I left the daytime classes due to the high school mentality of the students, now I attend evening classes. the students are better but the instructor doesn't know what she is doing. I asked her what my grade was on a recent test and she didn't know how to calculate it. Now I am committed to the loan that I took out to pay for this. Either way if I stay I loose if I go I loose. Any Advice??

What activities do you use?
What assignments do you give?
Do you try to explain the relevance of the subject matter?
Or, do you just ignore them?
Note your grade level in your response, please.

I completed GCSE's, A Levels and a BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy (vocational). Since being at home with my children and leaving occupational therapy I have volunteered at my sons primary school and want to become a teacher instead. Trouble is, I can't look at a PGCE because my degree wasn't in a core subject, so what can I do that won't take years to complete? I want to be qualified to work with primary children (in the UK)...... Any helpful links to websites or telephone numbers would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks.
