I have a student in my class, who after just one week of school, has already lied to me 3 or 4 times. He/she has a severely depressing family history, and I think lying is his/her way of having some sort of control over his/her life. I've already discussed with him/her that the lying has made his/her word feel invalid with me. How can I trust him/her when he/she doesn't trust me enough to be truthful? I think that as the year progresses we will be able to build a really solid relationship in which he/she can learn to trust me, but I'd like to know of some suggestions for dealing with the lying in the meantime. My current behavior management system gives students 3 chances throughout the week before their "fun time" is completely taken away. If I use this system with this student for every time he/she is caught lying, I have a feeling he/she will never be given the chance to engage socially with his/her friends. Any suggestions are welcome. :)

First of all, i'm a teacher's assistant and apparently i'm supposed to help out the students that are in that class. Well sometimes the teacher (which i've known since last year) won't have anything for me to do, and if a student asks me to help them i go and help them. Then, she'll come over to where i'm helping out a student and ask the student what do they need when i'm trying to help them out and i know how to help them out and stuff, but everytime one of her students tries talking to me or asks for help, she'll help them and have me do some work that she'll give me right then. It seems like she's jealous or sumthin when i talk to a student in there. Why is that? Oh yeah, and she gives me more work than her other assistants, and she laughs about it.

It seems that white board cleaner (in the bottle) works one time, but then makes the board harder to erase thereafter (as if it is stripping off a protective layer). After that the white board erasers just move the ink around, but don't erase it.

If a teacher sees that a student at about age 16 lost about 30 pounds, are they going to or are they are most likely obligated to ask them what happened? Especially if they suspect an eating disorder?

I know female teachers of teen or young adult boys are only human, they must get aroused but must not show it. When I was in school I had intense crushes on my female teachers. I just wondered how female teachers deal with it.

Years back when I was 10 at summer camp I remember she caught me goofing off and not paying attention after a few warnings. She told me to pick a switch, took me off the horse and disciplined me on the spot, much to my embarrassment. Then I was told to get back on the horse, for one very uncomfortable trail ride back to the camp. She explained "a sore bottom is a lot more desirable than a broken neck." She was so right...they don't make horseback riding instructors like that anymore.

I am a teacher from NJ with my masters degree. I am certified in Elementary Ed, Special Ed, and Reading. I want to earn some extra money by tutoring students after school. But there seems to be quite a range in tutoring prices--from $20 an hour to $60. How do I know what to charge?
