A teacher's salary in Indiana depends on how many years of experience you have and how much extra education. A new teacher with no years of experience gets the lowest salary on the pay scale. Each year, the teacher gains one more year of experience and moves up the scale on more year. It really is not easy to tell you how much a starting salary would be because it varies so much from district to district, depending a lot on the tax base of the county the district is in.
My school system is a poor one, but a beginning teacher with 0 years of previous experience and only a BS or BA degree earns $28,954. We are a rural community so living expenses are much lower than large metropolitan areas so that would influence the pay scale as well. Our scale tops out at 19 years of previous experience and a BS + 40 or a MS + 10 with a salary of $50,539.
If you know your state's Department of Education (DOE) website, you can go there and find or request the pay information from a specific corporation. It is public record so it is available. In the community I live in (different from the community I teach in), they publish all the teacher's salaries in the local newspaper (well, not just teachers, but all staff).

Look up whatever district's website you want to work for and their salary schedule is posted there. Keep in mind that if you are seeking certification for catagories such as Science, Math or Special Education, you're usually given a stipend on top of the regular salary because those who want to teach in those subjects are needed more than us who choose to teach the - most important - fundamental part of education (English/Language Arts).

Teachers are publicly paid so their salaries are public record. In the state of Illinois you can go to www.thechampion.org and look up teachers salaries by school district. If you can't find the salaries online talk to the district to find out the amount of money you could be making.

Here in silicon valley, most teachers start between 45k and 50k with the top end of the salary schedule being 90k to 100k.
The flip side of high pay is that houses start at about 600k and the average house is closer to 800k

Bound's Hubby, high school teacher, here:
It really depends on the state that you're in and the school district that hires you. In New Jersey, expect that you'd be looking at somewhere around the mid 30's for starters.

There's a huge variation in teachers' salaries from city to city and state to state. Contact school districts that you may be interested in and ask what a teacher's starting salary is.
