To become a certified teacher, you must go to a college where you will major in education, early childhood-K-2. elementary, 1-5, middle school,6-8, or high school, 9-12.
It's best to decide what you will specialize in if you teach middle or high school: math science, English, foreign language, etc. You will also be better off getting your Masters Degree. After you have taken your required courses, you will be working with actual students in your senior year. You will also be required to pass a National Teacher's Exam. Before you decide on becoming a teacher, think very hard first. Teaching is very stressful, and the pay is not nearly enough. Any day you can be physically or verbally abused by students,or parents. Also, this is not an 8 hour job, you could conceivably work 12 to 14 hours a day.The pay sounds good at first. I would suppose in Miami, that you would start in the high 30's, or even 40's, and maybe get a signing bonus. I know you're young, but look at your medical benefits as well as your retirement. Some school systems only give you a percentage of your 3 highest years after 30 years of service. In some states that's about $25,000 a year. Good luck, I hope I've given you something to think about.

You have to go to college and major in education and something else, like a subject you might want to teach, like math or science or English. Your last year of college you will be observing and then student teaching. After you graduate, start applying to schools you'd like to teach at. And at some point you'll probably have to pass some kind of state exam, a teacher's certification exam I think it what it's called. Good Luck.
