I'm filling out a job application. I currently work part-time as a Title 1 teacher's aide. The application is asking if I am a state employee... yes or no?

Our checks come as a warrant from the county.

Who's name is on your paycheck or stub. In most Jurisdictions, teachers are employees of the local school board, which is NOT a direct arm of state government. They are NOT state employees. They may be entitled to participate in state pension plans and other benefit programs but they are employees of a local agency.

In filling out an application, to err on the side of caution, I would check no and indicate in writing, "school board employee."

A good way to find out is of you get state Public Employee Retirement or Teacher's retirement then yes you are a employee of the state. If your checks are warranted from the county -yes.

Depends what state you live in - in Texas you are the employee of the school district and not the state.
