I completed GCSE's, A Levels and a BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy (vocational). Since being at home with my children and leaving occupational therapy I have volunteered at my sons primary school and want to become a teacher instead. Trouble is, I can't look at a PGCE because my degree wasn't in a core subject, so what can I do that won't take years to complete? I want to be qualified to work with primary children (in the UK)...... Any helpful links to websites or telephone numbers would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks.

The graduate teaching programme might suit you. It's almost like an apprenticship. You earn while you learn! The salary is around £!5k and it takes between 3months to a year to qualify. I've put a link up for you to get more info. Good luck.

I live in Canada and worked in the UK teaching for five years. I was considered a unqualified teacher (although I was qualified in Canada). I was going through the process of becoming qualified. I am sure if you contact the (and I am sorry I can't remember their name but they are the teacher qualifying in the UK) they could tell you exactly and you may only need to do some touch up courses before your PGCE. It's considered almost a graduate program as you already have a degree! They were really co-operative for me and actually felt that their rules needed to change about Canadians teaching and being considered qualified when I was there.

I don' tknow if this will be any help but good luck!

You could try a two year PGCE in one of the core subjects You would do a year long extensive and intensive course in the subject and teaching theory then a year PGCE teaching practise You should look at the government site, canteach.org.uk (I think look on google.) Don't know where you live but I went to Sunderland uni (sunderland.ac.uk) and knew many who did this route with lots of different backgrounds If this is too much you could find a job as teaching assistant less money but no studying

You can always move abroad, make more money to the cost of living and be hired for ten times the price of the locals, have your kids attend for half price and get free plane tickets back to your country once a year. Plus learn a foreign language.

I'm not sure, but I think if you wanted to teach primary children there is a completely separate degree unto itself to qualify you to do this.

There may not be a quick resolve to your situation, so I guess it depends upon how much you want it as to how long you're prepared to study for it.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
