It is the same with many countries. Canadians speak English as do Australians and South Africans. I also speak Spanish but I am not Spanish nor I am Hispanic at all. Most people who speak Spanish are not Spanish at all but rather Mexican, Cuban, Peruvian, Venezuelan, etc. In Brazil they speak Portuguese, but they are not Portuguese.
My point is that the name of the language that we speak does not really have anything to do with our nationality but rather where the people came from or who took over an area many years ago. Brazil was once under the control of Portugal and therefore that is why it is their language. Spaniards came to South America and ruled and their language became dominant. Hope this clears it up.

Because they do. English is the language of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, much of India, and probably many other countries I've forgotten (sorry)
The word English does not always refer to the nation, but to the language. And a language is not based on your nationality. Mexicans speak Spanish, even though they don't live in Spain. Brazilians speak Portuguese. Austrians speak German...

Did you mean "Why do the Americans say they speak English when they're not English?"
In which case, it's because at one time their English and England's English were the same. Over time, the languages have changed in a subtle way.
These days, outside of the States, it tends to be referred to as "American English".

What kind of silly question is this? Of course we speak English in America. And they speak Portuguese in Brazil. And Spanish in Chile. And Dutch in the Antilles. It's just a regional difference that's all. It's in Scotland, that no one can understand their English.

because americans speak English, the same language as in England
Americans speak different dialects of English than in England and with different accents, but it is basically the same language
English can mean from England or it can mean the language of England
