I want to become a tattoo artist, and not because of shows like Miami Ink. I have a couple tattoo's from some different artists. The last artist I went to was really good. I asked him if anyone had apprenticed under him, and he repiled yes, and that he charged him like 8,000 dollars. This seems a bit too much. I do understand that they are training you for a career, but I've people not charging for an apprenticeship. Is this true or not and what could sway a person to not charge for an apprenticeship?

My fiance was a tattoo apprentice for a while. He barely made any money doing it. They technically don't have to pay you for being an apprentice. Since my fiance was considered the secretary also, he got paid a little, but not much! You are there to learn as an apprentice, not to get paid. That's just the truth! Sorry.

All you're able to do is ask around i'm afraid. bypass to all your close by tattoo parlours (with the help of close by I propose so a strategies as you're keen to holiday) and ask in the event that they're finding for an apprentice, and make certain which you do tutor them your portfolio. good now lots of persons attempt to get into tattooing (blame Kat Von D i assume) so good now not many places are taking on. It helps to be attentive to somebody who's already tattooing, that could get you a foot interior the door. attempt networking - connect communities on facebook or in spite of SN you're on, and ask approximately on there. in spite of you do, do not basically purchase a gun and a few ink on Ebay and commence scratching out of your residing-room. No respected tattoo artist will take you on in case you do. probability is, whether you get an apprenticeship, you isn't inking human beings for a stable few months, so which you could be very affected person. it's going to repay :) stable luck

What an awesome question! I never though about this. There must be a place to learn this trade.

I'll be watching for the answers. Good luck.

I'd start by contacting several places and ask how they got started and what they would recommend.

I'ts think you'd actually get paid a little actually.

You should pursue a differnt career. Painting on somones body is not an admirable profession as it does nothing to benefit society. For a slightly greater investment you could become a licensed hellicopter pilot.
