How to locate a program that teaches you how to read and write?

My grannie before she leaves the earth always wanted to learn how to read and write but never had the chance to, I have been looking on the internet but I just dont know where to start. If anyone knows of any places in chicago that offers a reading and writing program for the elderly please contact me.

Usually, there are community programs that teach reading & writing. Look in your phone book for places such community centers, literacy counsils for your state, and county. I'm sure they can tell you where to go.

Use the material that is readily available for pre-schoolers and advance her to higher levels as she becomes competent.
