Bag Lady
As a reporter from the local newspaper, I decided to observe the actions of other people by spending a whole day appearing to live alongside a homeless woman. All through the day, I had noticed the anger and the sadness in her eyes. Looks from the eyes of strangers who rush past her, were uncomfortable. She is of course a bag lady. She’s the one who pushes a cart and fills up bags with trash. She will pick up anything that may help her survive her time on the streets.
As soon as people passed by us, most looked at me—ignoring her very existence. The way I was dressed and looked made my appearance a lot better than hers. This didn’t make me feel any better. In my opinion, many people have judged the bag lady without getting to know her.
Water dripped off her clothes disturbing the violent noise of life lived on the street. It seemed like those people took advantage of each other. The homeless tend to be viewed as less than human.
