OK, so the prefix "non" means not. So, put not in front of each of the root words.

Non-conformist:
1.a person who refuses to conform, as to established customs, attitudes, or ideas.
2.(often initial capital letter) a Protestant in England who is not a member of the Church of England; dissenter.

Non-living:
not endowed with life; "the inorganic world is inanimate"; "inanimate objects"; "dead stones"

Non-flammable:
Not flammable, especially not readily ignited and not rapidly burned.

Non-violence:
the refusal to use any violent means in order to gain political, social etc aims

Non-taxable:
(of goods or funds) not subject to taxation; "the funds of nonprofit organizations are nontaxable"; "income exempt from taxation"

Non-fiction:
books, magazines etc giving facts, information etc, ie not stories, novels, plays, poetry

The prefix non- means "the opposite of" or "not".

A non-living thing is not necessarily dead, but it is "not living"

Non-violence is "The absence of violence" or "Peaceable protest".

Non-taxable means "Not able to be taxed"

Is it starting to make more sense?
