from MY point of view, i'd have to disagree with all of you... Maybe its not the schools, its the kids themselves. I've taken a few advanced classes, and even regular classes, and i feel like I learned enought to get be by... I got a 26 on my ACT, and got into the college I wanted to go to. Now I'm a mechanical engineering student there. I never feel like I wasnt taught enough in school before this, and from my experience, I probably have learned more in school up till now, than my parents EVER did. Granted one didnt go to college, but still, every generation, it seems that they up the amount of knowlege that kids are supposed to learn. I'm sure my kids will get a "better" education than I have, just like theirs will be smarter than them. its just a continuous thing. Thats how progress is made

not very much. Our schools have been dumbed down by illegal immigration at least in California. Over 50% of the latino community will not graduate from high school because it is not there thing. This affects students that are trying to learn and become something. This is a huge problem but the teachers unions love it and do not care about the kids- just the jobs that the illegals create. Good luck kids.

Watch the TV program "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader". No offense to the ignorant, but I bet you don't win! Other than academics, WE teach what parents should but don't have time for because YOU are asking questions on the Internet.

Way too much! Nowadays, political events and opinions are brought into school as well as other unnecessary topics. They don't teach education anymore, they teach their own opinions. I think it's a horrible learning environment but you can't escape it. School should be school, not a government office. But I agree with the answer above me; since illegal immigration has increased, teachers can't teach anymore because it confuses the illegals. That's why government issues are brought up instead.
