it may be because children tend to relate more to female teachers than male...and the pay factor is also true ... men (if they are the only earning individual) cannot support their families on the pay of a school teacher.
besides female teachers tend to be more balanced than male teachers..
thats why at the school level ul have more female teachers than at the collage or university level

Women typically enjoy working with children more than men. Men have difficulty making enough money to support a family on a teacher's salary.

Two reasons that I hear from a lot of people..one is the salary. The salary is so low that Men can't support their families on it. Also there is the fear of child abuse. Men in the teaching field get a lot of flack. I know a few guys who taught preschool and were so great at it but ended up quitting because they got tired of parents being paranoid of them being alone with their kids...

I think its partly because not that many men go to uni and if they do they head for the high dollars!
