When am I ever going to need to write a 5,000 word essay on the Iliad in the real world? When am I going to use calculus in the real world? When am I going to need to know atomic mass and chemical equations in the real world? WHY IS ALL THIS WORK REQUIREDDDDDDD. I'm very stressed with all this unneccessary work that the school makes us unfortunate students do. Okay, just please someone answer those questions for me.

One of the parents at my daughter's school came from America and he is aggressively trying to get the school staff to introduce a child beauty pageant at the primary school so that the children can compete. James is a good friend of mine so I spoke to him. I told him I think making children compete in terms of beauty is horrible. Those children who are not as beautiful will be hurt. James then accused me of being politically correct.

What can I say to this guy to make him realize that a child beauty pageant at school is not a good idea if it isn't?

I wanna take PE (Physical educ) this summer because I dont wanna take it in my senior year as a regular class. But I also made plans for traveling for a few days in the summer, so I dont know how long will it take me summer school (a month, two months), if it's two months I'm screwed.
I've tried to inquire at school, but it's a disaster, my counselor is never there, etc, and all my friends say different things.

Please tell me about your experience, or what you know about summer school.

Thanks

After I turned in a quiz, I saw three kids cheating. Right before they turned their quizzes in, they took someone else's quiz out of the turn-in basket, and look at the answers. Then, they changed their answers and turned in their papers. The bell then rang soon after. I told the substitute what had happened but he told me to talk to the original teacher so during the lunch break I told the teacher what had happened.

I'm a highschool freshman currently in the middle of the 1rst quarter of 2nd semester. Unfortunately, my grades 1st semester were pretty abysmal (for reasons I'd rather not talk about) and have left me with a pathetic 3.0 GPA. I really, really want to do better, so that I can go to a very good university. I'm living in the U.S, and I go to a public school with a pretty good reputation. My 'dream' schools are Oxford University, University of London, and NYU; but considering my current academic record, they all look very out of reach. Is it possible that I can raise my GPA? I know I'm going to have to work very hard, but what should I do to make getting into any of these schools (especially Oxford, but that's probably pushing it..) possible?

I'm thinking of putting my 5-year-old son in a Montessori elementary school. I think he is very advanced in terms of his linguistical and comprehension skills. He also has an excellent memory for things he has learned (and is interested in). He is social and has been called a Leader by his preschool teachers and other parents.

I am wondering if there is a particular sort of personality or any character traits for people who do better in the Montessori education system.

i'm in 11th grade and at my school there is this teacher who doesn't even teach me but he acts really wierd with me. Hes like the strictest teacher in the school to everyone but me. Once he took a photo of me and started going on about how much he LIKED it, i mean it was just a pic of me playing with my hair. Another time i was in his room for some reason and he just came out with 'fancy a job rosa' and winked at me, then a few days later he was shouting at some kids and came up to me after and said 'i'm not mean, well i'm not mean to you because i know you like and i'm nice to you, you've seen my nice side ' and winked at me yet again. Whenever i walk past he has to have some degree of eye contact with me and whenever i talk to him he always touches me on the arm or shoulder. Its only me hes like this with, why am i been singled out like this? and now hes asking for me to do lunchbreak catch up sessions with him and asked noone else who hes doesn't teach only me. is he infatuated?

Just read a story on the BBC news website that says traditional playground games including "tag" and "kiss chase" have been banned from one primary school because they're "too rough". Apparently the kids have been watching and playing violent video games and are bringing that kind of action to the playground.
Any thoughts? I mean, aside from the "banning" issue, how worried are we that primary (elementary) school kids are playing violent games? What should be done?

Check out the story:
