Primary & Secondary Education - February 2007

[Selected]: All categories Education & Reference Primary & Secondary Education

I graduated high school in 2003 and have been at university ever since, graduating with a BA in Sept. 2007. I'm finishing off my classes at uni on May 1st and want to go on to take a Masters in Education Admin some day. In order to get in though you need a few years of work in an educational setting so I figured I would apply to my old high school since I've worked there for 5 years as a summer student - doing secretarial, translation, marketing and camp counsellor work. I was young in my grad class and so I started working for the school in grade 11, at 15 years old.

I'm now almost 21 and have all of the credentials they want, plus a university degree, but when I inquired after the job this morning the director of the school (he's a new guy since it was recently bought by an American firm - it's in Switzerland) said I needen't even apply since he wanted someone older.

I want to change his mind, but how should I go about it? I'll send you my resume by email if needed... Thanks!!

I was appaulled to find out my daughters school allows them to take MP3/ IPODS/ DS's etc to use at playtimes. Am I the only one who sees anything wrong with this? I called the school to complain but was told well dont let them bring it in....which misses my point completely! This takes away from social interaction at break time. And also my daughter lives partlyt with her dad during the week so I cant control what she takes in that way.

So Ive tried complaining to the school but that fell on deaf ears...whats my next step?
I have also phoned local schools and they dont allow it either.

As a student myself in my final year of studying for GCSE's and with exams looming, i hate it so much when other pupils in the class are continuously disruptive and are not punished - why shuld I (and the other pupils who wish to learn) have our education damaged due to others? Surely schools should take it upon themselves to make sure everybody is working in a good environment, and I believe that this can be achieved by removing pupils who are not prepared to learn - do you agree?

My son is seventeen and is still in the 10th grade. He seems to not have any motivation to inprove his life.He goes to school everyday but will not turn in any homework.Yes, he is failing this year. The school has done everything in their power to help him regroup but he refuse to do the work. The school has asked him to just get his GED to stop him from just hanging around at school. Now he acts as though is sad because he had to drop out, but he was not doing anything anyway. HELP!!
