I was confused by this statement for Speech class. Is this true? Or would it be fasle? If it is false, how do I make it a true statement?

It is absolutely false because the prefix in "co"mmunication means more than one. A person cannot communicate with him/herself. Furthermore, in communication, the speaker provides information to the listener but the listener has to use his/her schemata (their knowledge) to decode and process the information. In communication the listener must be just as active as the speaker. Let me give you an example, let's say that an English speaker is telling something to someone who doesn't speak English at all. Is this communication? NO, because the listener cannot decode the information since English is not part of his/her schemata, therefore there is no possibility of verbal communication. The true statement would be: Communication is an active and mutually participatory act between listener and speaker for the transfer of information. Hope this answers your question

I think it is False. Communication is between listeners and speakers, because both listener and speaker must be actively working to understand the other.
