I've heard that abstinence-only education programs really don't do much to prevent teens from having sex. And not only that, but a study once showed that teens who took virginity pledges often broke them. Also, I remember that when we studying sex in my high school health class, we not only learned about various methods of contraception and STD prevention, but we also watched a film strip with pictures of people in the advanced stages of STDs like syphilis and herpes. And I have to say, those images scared the hell out of me and have stayed with me to this day, over 10 years later. If teens are going to have sex, anyway, doesn't it make sense to educate them about EVERY method of contraception and STD prevention and to also give them ALL the details about the risks associated with unprotected sex?

Besides cost what questions do most people ask when beginning this precess. I am looking at parochial and private schools and since I have always takes public school as a given I never thought about what to ask or expect. My son is now 2.5 years old and I'd like to be able to make a well informed decision for him by the time he is ready for Kindergarten.

My son is in the 5th grade. At the beginning of the year his teacher noticed that he's struggling and we're pursuing some testing for some resource help. In the meantime, I've been getting notices quite often that he has zeros in the grade book. I assume that he's not done his work and jump on him about it only to find it at home...graded.

This has happed probably 6-8 times already since September. I talked with the teacher on the phone and then with the principal and now it's happened again with 2 different subjects. One is math, his most challenging subject, and he got 100% on the assignment and a zero in the grade book. I'm at my wit's end. I don't know where to turn next.

The school social worker keeps mentioning his self esteem being low and I'm certain that this situation isn't helping any.

Any suggestions?

I am in a situation where I missed 4 years of High school. I then sat my GCSEs and got G grades as a consequence (apart from a D grade in Englaish) I wondred I know this might sound like a strange question.....but why is it that once you reach 16 /or are in a situation like mine that you cannot go back to high school.(re-do the years again) Why is this.?
Is it against the law?
