I think that is just some of their classmates babies they're using because they are allowed to teach the kids about parenting but not about birth control.

Virtual babies ready to meet their parents

The 'Baby Think it Over Program', part of Tenterfield Family and Youth Support Services, will soon give locals the opportunity to be virtual parents thanks to Virtual Reality Simulator Dolls.

The dolls weigh the same as an average baby, burp, cough and cry just like a real baby and will soon be on the streets and in the homes of Tenterfield families.

The Family and Youth Support Service initially sought funding to purchase the reality simulator dolls through various local organisations along with the Stronger Families Strategy Program.

Despite the initial application being unsuccessful, the application was directed to a more appropriate funding package on the service's behalf - the Child Abuse Prevention Strategy, and local funds were not required.

On news of the successful application, Tenterfield Family and Youth Support Service took no time in ordering the dolls from Virtual Parenting in Coffs Harbour and two of the reality babies were finally welcomed into open arms on July 10.

Family Support will be working closely with Tenterfield High School on the program.

Principal of Tenterfield High, Terry Goodwin, along with the school's P and C Association have been strong supporters of the program and have given the service tremendous assistance.

It was their letters of support that helped to attain the funding, and ultimately the dolls for the program.

Lisa Tolley, from Family Support, said the service was grateful for the members of Rotary Tenterfield for their interest and support with the program.

Lisa said they are hopeful of having the program up and running soon and that the simulator dolls would serve as an invaluable learning tool in fulfilling their goals for child protection.
