It was initially made to help people from low income families to have a better shot at college. But now if you pay enough many to take Kaplan or buy a book about mastering the SAT you can raise your score by hundreds of points.

Ok my freshman year i went to one school. Well halfway through my year we moved out of district. I used my girlfriends address to continue going to that school. Last Thursday was the first day of school, the night before we had some drama and it escalated into me having to switch schools. The school I am switching to has already been in for about a week. I knoe no one and i am so nervous. I am and honor student and am in honor classes, but im still so damn nervous. Any advise. First day tommorrow.

Has grammer all but disappeared from the English language? Is English just not taught in public schools any longer? Is there too much emphasis on bilingual education? I would like to hear from teachers. (Eye wood like two here from sum teachers)

Are the youth of today coming out of school with lower reading and comprehension skills, or is their poor spelling and grammar on the internet simply a product of the new medium?

If their skills are lower, is it part of a gradual decline or a jump down?

What role do schools, television, and new technology play? Is it true, as it seems, that many people in schools today cannot read and understand a book, and much less would ever do it for pleasure? When I was in high school, class of 2002, it was already obvious that many students couldn't read and understand anything longer than a page without help... and to get through reading assignments, the teachers would read aloud in class, and have the students do the same, and they couldn't even pronounce the words.

Please state your age when answering. Mine, 23.

I've been thinking about becoming a teacher, but I can't decide if I would prefer elementary, middle school, or secondary (English/language arts) education. Could teachers out there please describe their typical days? I'd like to get as well-rounded a picture of what being a teacher is like.

Salary is not a concern, and I will probably not be teaching in an inner city school. I've used my vacation days to spend time in schools, and I had fun with all three age groups. I get the feeling that hanging out in a classroom for a day or two is a lot different than facing that classroom every day.
