A point of reference is a location that can be used to guide you to the desired location.
Example: 450' north of the middle of the bridge. the "point of reference" is the middle of the bridge, that is a beginning point and is the point refereed to in the instructions.
Hope that helps!!??

I don't have to think what it might be. I know. But for you to understand, it would be better if you explained the context you are encountering it (if you know what I mean)

If it's an art project, it would be where the artist is standing.
