That can seem like an overwhelming task. A quick way to lean the 9 x's tables is to use the finger math method. I've included a link. (The link has a few other tricks as well.) Then this is a method I used with classes from about third grade on.

Write all the tables in lists from the zero multiplication tables to the 12 times, or however far you need to learn. I used a chalkboard, but a whiteboard, or even a large sheet of paper will do.

With classes I would then say, "Ok - we have to learn all these multiplication tables!" And of course everyone would groan. But then say, "Let's look at how easy this really is."

Ask yourself how many you already know. For example you probably already know all the 0 x's, the 1 x's, the 2 x's, the 5 x's, and the 10 x's, so erase all of those in both places that they appear on the board or paper. (Think about counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's if necessary.) Then go on to erase the 9 x's as you can figure these very quickly using finger math. Then look at what is left. Each one that is left appears there twice since 7 x 8 is the same as 8 x 7, so erase one of each pair. What is left are the only ones you really need to focus on for learning, and the job should seem much less intimidating to you now.

Good luck with it!

First don't try to memorize them all at once. Work on say the "2's first. Work on half of them for a couple of days. So, one week of learning the "2's".

We had a game with our kids which was fun. The child would MAKE "flash cards" with the answers on the back. You can buy them, but when the child MAKES them, they are also learning. Then we took turns showing the flash cards to each other.. Parent to child..Child to parent. Sometimes, the parent gives the WRONG answer and the child "teaches" the parent by correcting them with correct answer.
Go over the same 6 or 7 cards for one or two nights. That way, the child really LEARNS those and before you know it, in a few weeks, the child knows ALL of the answers :) Don't spend more than 15 minutes or so at a time. Take a break and make it fun. You can practice 3 or 4 times a day.
It's a much less stressful way to learn and SO much fun!!
Good luck!!

well when i was learning it a long time ago we made up songs more like raps, and we used flashcards....each week memorize a number. like for example one week you can do the 2 times table (as in 2x2 and 2x3 and 2x4 up to 2x12) and then another week you will do it with the 3's, then 4, then 5, all the way up to twelve. get like cd roms with games and stuff. now i know them by heart.

I know schools want you to learn the method but lets face it, math facts must be memorized. You can't learn to spell without memoriing the alphabet can you? MEMORIZE!

I was always given a grid that went across to the number 12 and it went down the grid to the number 12 and I studied it and used it for my homework.

When I was learning them, many years ago, I used flash-cards at home and the teacher used flash-cards in class.

I gave my grandchildren a poster with the times table. I put it in the bathroom right in front of the toilet.

Memorize it a row at a time and then test yourself until you get it right.

I studied them over and over and over again my parents would ask me to go through them all every night and if i got to a group of them that I didn't know they would get me to write them out and re-ask me them.
