I am a Freshman in High School and it is really important to me to get in a very good college. I was wondering.. Do they care about your grades as long as you have a 4.0? Does an A+ in a regular class or an A/ A- in a sort of advanced class like Advanced Science (physical science and chemistry in one year)and Geometry. (No AP classes in Fresman year.)

Should I switch into advanced Science for next semester even if I'm not planning a Scientific career?

Does it make a difference what grade I have in a class as long as it's an A?

Thanks! I need advice from someone who has been to one of these colleges, or knows a lot about them.

I don't understand why a college would ONLY want to attract intelligent students or economically privileged students, isnt this America?

Would this be enough to get in?
1) grade 1-4 in china
2) grade 5-10 in Canada (grade 9 average was B, and grade 10 average was A)
3) grade 11-12 in USA
4) AP physic, math, chemistry, and English
5) chess national master rating 2200+
6) have studied stocks with professional traders and have three years of trading experience. (since grade 9)
7) a high score in the SATs (not near perfect)

If this is not enough please tell me what you think i should do.

I transferred schools this semester but haven't made any friends here (it's really small, and I've tried to get involved but there isn't much in the way of clubs, and this is a really tight-knit community where everyone already knows each other and aren't interested in meeting anyone new). I have 3 options. I can
a.) go back to my old school. My old roommate is pretty excited about this, but I don't know if my other friends are going to want to hang out with me anymore because they all rushed so they're doing sorority stuff (my roommate is the only one that didn't rush and she says she's pretty lonely). I also didn't really like my classes there.
b.) I can commute to this university close to home where I already have a year's worth of credits from highschool, but it's really unchallenging and I don't think I could make friends as a commuter.
c.) I could take this semester off. I'm running out of time to make a decision. What could I really do if I took the semester off?

I am a freshman pre-med major and my gpa for my first semester is a 3.0 with no science courses. I was never that great in any courses other than science and this worries me that med schools might reject applicants because their gpa in other courses wasnt that high.

Okay, I am a junior in high school right now and I took some few extra classes in a Community College (LACC) over the vacations i had during high school. The classes I took were Music 101 (got a B), Psychology 101(got a B), Antropology(B), History US(A), Physics Fundamentals (B), and here comes the bad part... Political Science (got a F!), Philosophy (got a D!). Im wondering how bad does this look if i send it to a decent University? and how badly will this effect my gpa? I am worried because I took these as extra classes but didnt do so good. Is it a good idea to retake the classes I got a D and F in?

sorry if this is hard to read

am looking around at colleges and before I went to visit I wanted to know where I should be looking. I have a relatively high GPA, above 4(mine is not out of a 4.0 scale) have taken 7 AP classes and done well on all of the exams. I am on the swimming team but not a star athlete, just do it for the excercise although I do compete. I volunteer about 30 hours a year at a courthouse where I am an attorney. Also a writer for my school newspaper and I am Treasurer of my grade. What types of schools can I get into, and am I qualified for a school like Harvard, Penn, or Columbia?

do colleges like it when ou try a new elective every year in high school, or do they prefer you do the same thing every year, but at different levels.
for example:
freshman year: introduction to photography
sophmore year: photography I
junior year: photography II
senior year: Photography III

also, I wouldn't want to college to be a photographer, so it's not like i'm doing that class for that.
