do colleges like it when ou try a new elective every year in high school, or do they prefer you do the same thing every year, but at different levels.
for example:
freshman year: introduction to photography
sophmore year: photography I
junior year: photography II
senior year: Photography III

also, I wouldn't want to college to be a photographer, so it's not like i'm doing that class for that.

Dedication is really important when applying to colleges. As nice as it is to be a well-rounded person, colleges today are looking for those that are committed. I am also assuming that you are taking photography because you enjoy doing it. That's great because now you are taking a class you enjoy and you are showing colleges that you are committed to something and have a passion. Stick with it, especially if you enjoy it. Colleges know that as a high school student you do not know what you want to do but showing passion is key to being accpeted and sticking through Photography may just be what shines through to an acceptance board when they are reading 5,000 other applications.

It has nothing to do with whether it was the same subject matter or many different ones - both would be okay. However, especially since you don't plan to be a photographer, the assumption might be that you took this because it was easy, since photography isn't really an academic subject matter. If you took extra sciences, or more of a foreign language than you needed, or several economics classes which weren't required, they would be fine with it.

Personally I am in the applying to college process right now and the recommendation I got when I first started high school was to pick one or two that interest you and stick with them. This shows that you have dedication, which colleges love! I did yearbook all 4 years =).

its not so much of what colleges like, but what you like. you should try to pick classes around a subject you believe you can accel in. if you have a talent for art like photography, drawing, or digital imaging i would take classes that relate to those subjects in hopes of winning contests and leadership awards that can provide the admissions committee with characteristics theyre looking for in a student. these characteristics could include integrity, drive, skill, and leadership. it looks great when you've had the motive to accel in a particular subject while balancing other extra curriculars. i like writing so i took yearbook and lit mag and my junior and senior years i was lit mag editor and fashion editor and copyright editor so it helped show that i had motivation and talent of leadership proven. :)
