am looking around at colleges and before I went to visit I wanted to know where I should be looking. I have a relatively high GPA, above 4(mine is not out of a 4.0 scale) have taken 7 AP classes and done well on all of the exams. I am on the swimming team but not a star athlete, just do it for the excercise although I do compete. I volunteer about 30 hours a year at a courthouse where I am an attorney. Also a writer for my school newspaper and I am Treasurer of my grade. What types of schools can I get into, and am I qualified for a school like Harvard, Penn, or Columbia?

From what you say, you might be, but we don't know your SAT scores, class rank, desired major, or preferences as to type of school. You might want to go onto the College Board's website. They have a "college matchmaker" function which allows you to feed in all of your data and preferences, and they will give you a list of schools which meet your criteria and for which you might be eligible.

I don't know if your qualified, but you certainly seem to be. Why don't you apply anyway. You'll never know unless you try. Whats the worst that can happen? They don't accept you? Its not like they can come to your house and beat you up or anything like that. Good Luck!
