In almost all states the minimum requirement will be a bachelor's degree with a major in secondary education with a concentration in science education. It can be done in 4 years but most people take 4 plus a semester or 5 years due to student teaching.

Some states have a post-bachelor's certificate or in-service alternative certification program leading to the teaching endorsement that you can do if you already have a bachelor's degree in the content area but not in education. This generally takes a year. (you may as well get a master's and be paid more as a result)

Another option is a bachelor's degree in science (general sciences preferred) in 4 years plus a Master of Arts in Teaching which takes about 1 year and a semester to two years for a total of 5-6 years.

The master's holder will be paid more and will have an easier time getting the best jobs.

Requirements for regular licenses to teach kindergarten through grade 12 vary by State. However, all States require general education teachers to have a bachelor’s degree and to have completed an approved teacher training program with a prescribed number of subject and education credits, as well as supervised practice teaching. Some States also require technology training and the attainment of a minimum grade point average. A number of States require that teachers obtain a master’s degree in education within a specified period after they begin teaching.

I believe that one would need at the very minimum, a bachelor's degree as you mentioned, in secondary education. Student teaching should be a component to getting the degree.
