Hi Guys! I have a Wharfedale freeview box but no ariel socket to connect it to in my room. Firstly I just got an ariel and dangled it out of the window. This worked quite well but there were a still a few channels I couldnt get like BBC1 and 2 so I bought an ariel splitter to connect to the socket downstairs in the living room and a 10m ariel lead which I connected from the, now split ariel feed from the living room, up the outside of the house, through my window and into my freeview box.

However..... I have now have some of the channels I didnt have but have lost the ones I did! The reception in the living room is perfect so I can see no reason why if I'm taking from the same ariel feed I should also get all the channels. (I have done the first time installation thing)

Sorry for the long and boring post but does anyone have any ideas what I could do now?

My TV is about 7 years old and had no probs with it till today. The sound is fine but there is just a line of light going across it across the middle of the screen and the rest is black...is it worth getting someone to look at it or is it time for a new one?

For a Plasma TV , say with dimesions of 40 to 43 inches , what is the maximum resolution ( in pixels ) that it can reach ?

Is this maximum resolution limited by the inherent limits of Plasma technology ?

A case example : an X brand 32 inch LCD TV can reach resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels , whereas by comparison, a Plasma TV of 42 inches can only reach resolutions of 1024 x 768 pixels .

Why is this so ?

The TV in my livingroom is so old and is starting to lose it's color. I'd like to get a new one without spending too much. Does anyone know of a place where I can get a good used one? Or even a good price on a new one?

Thanks!

I was once a tv engineer but over the years as rental declined i found I had to adapt to other types of electronics to survive
automotive test equipment, warehouse control systems, computers and now industrial electronics
How many other trades have to keep changing to survive
looking back I should have been an electrician as they seem to be in a better position work wise nowadays but in my day electronics was the best trade to get into.
What are you doing now?
Do you still repair tv's
Do you think your knowledge and expertise has gone to waste.
How much junk from the old days do you still keep to your wifes annoyance?
I have even found skilled techs driving fork trucks for a living as it pays better money now than repairing electronics.
