Most probably, your picture tube is gone. Its better to buy a new tv instead of getting this one fixed

Your fault description rings a bell with me , it should do the same with any TV tech !! The bits of picture and the lines and distortion describes a fault called AGC lockout ! To confirm this it is sometimes possible to partially disconnect the antenna , maybe just use the centre conductor , this may then result in a snowy but complete picture !!The explanation for this is that the tuner unit and the amplifiers that follow have been turned full up . Look for the AGC presets ( not far from the tuner unit ) there will be a preset labelled RF agc and maybe IF agc adjusting these may fix the problem if not then its probable the first chip that follows the tuner is faulty and you will need real help from a TV tech . Cheers Pete

You didn't give enough details. 1st find the manual for the TV, & see if there is a section for troulbleshooting.
If the set is more than a decade old & when you turn it on, you get sound & no picture then it's probably the picture tube.
I know you probably spent a lot of money on a Sony Trinitron colour TV 10yrs ago, but believe me, it is not worth replacing the picture tube. The set is best to be taken to a recycling depot.
You will be able to buy a brand new replacement with a full warranty at Walmart for less than repairing your old set.

I used to have a trinitron, it sounds like it could be dying or dead, but one last ditch attempt at getting it to work would be, unplug it, get it away from all electrical equipment, then wipe a HIGH!!! powered electro magnet across the screen, try that
