Help, Please. have 10 year old tv, a new dvd recorder/player, and a comcast cable box.

in what order do i connect them? cable box-tv-dvd or cable box- dvd-tv. i want to record from tv and i want to be able to record one station while watching another.

i'm pretty sure i have all the proper cables. coaxial, s-cable (but i don't know what it is for), cables with three ends (red, yellow, and white), two ends (red and white) and also (red and black).

i know i can do this, just need directions.

thanks

i just read this: United States the Federal Communications Commission will be ending Analog (Current Conventional TV Services in 2009.) 2009 will be here in a heart beat and this TV will be HDTV ready. All TV's in the United States that are not HDTV ready by 2009 will go dark IF THEY ARE LIMITED TO ONLY GETTING OVER THE AIR BROADCAST SIGNALS!

So is it true?

I'm prepared to spend $1000 on a new tv and I'm trying to get in on the end of the year sales this month (jan). I'm using it for tv and movies but also for my xbox 360. I found a 42 inch plasma hdtv for $1000 at Best Buy and I'm wondering if this is a good choice. If not, what should I be looking for when buying a new tv? My price range is $1000.

I have just had a pioneer plasma (with built in HD tuner) installed and the AV guy used YuV cables to connect the Foxtel box to the TV. I've noticed the Foxtel resolution / picture quality (note we have cable - not satellite) is not what I'd expect from an SD broadcast on a high resolution plasma. ALSO notably the aspect is different from say, HD free to air. for example when I switch between channel 9 free to air and ch 9 foxtel I notice the ch 9 logo is noticably more toward the centre of the screen on foxtel - almost like its on Zoom setting or something. I've played around with all the settings on both the foxtel and the plasma itself - all different combinations - with no success. My next move was to try and run an S-Video cable from the foxtel box to the TV - would this typically assist in both the Aspect and the resolution/picture quality? Any other suggestions???! Thanks in advance.

I bought this tv and the sales associate told me that there was no difference between an HDTV and an HD-Ready lcd tv. I decided to research it for myself and on the how stuff works website it says that I need an hd tuner to get hdtv. According to this site I will also need an indoor or outdoor antenna! Is this true? I have the hd cable box, is that enough?

I heard a crazy rumor about non-HD TVs not being able to get channels sometime in 2008? Is the truth that: channels will be offered in HD, but non-HD TVs could still get them (at low quality of course)?

Or is this rumor.... true?

Please Explain, thanks!

Would the s- video/component output format match the input ie PAL in/PAL out, NTSC in/ NTSC out? Or would it translate all inputs to a standard output (PAL in or NTSC in / NTSC out)? In other words, does the multi system merely transmit its output, or it converts it?

I just bought a Samsung SIR-TS360 DirecTV HD receiver to use to get "over the air" (OTR) HD broadcasts of local stations. It says it will work as a tuner for OTR signals. I currently do not have DirecTV service as I do not want the DirecTV channels, just the OTR stations. Will this work without DirecTV service? Has anyone done this before? Please include instructions if possible.
Thanks in advance!

I keep seeing ads for HDTVs where their max resolution is 1366X768, but yet the manufacturers tout these as 1080i capable TVs. 1080i or 1080p by definition is 1920X1080 so are these manufacturers just flat out lying to consumers? If the highest resolution a TV can show is 1366X768, then it's not showing you a picture in full 1080. A lie by the HDTV makers, or a half-truth?

Few extra details,

Size: upto 26inch screen
Budget: upto £350-400
For use with an Xbox 360

The room I will be putting it in also lacks a socket point so, this may sound like an awful question but do these things work with just a set top aerial? I currently just have a analog portable tv with a freeview box and I pick all channels up perfectly with just a set top loop aerial.

I want to purchase an LCD HDTV, but when I go to the store they are telling me I need a bunch of other stuff to go with it that will be an additional 1500.

I have a regular direct t.v. box and i want to buy a LCD HDTV. The store is telling me I need an adapter so that when I uprgrade my direct t.v. box to the flat panel t.v. is will play the hd and I also need to pay 399 to have someone install it in my house. Can someone just break down exactly what I need for my t.v.

Please Help!!!

Just put our Tv on the wall in the bedroom, and I use headphones at night if the wife is asleep, however I sometimes fall asleep with them on and am worried that our five year will run in in the morning trip over the wire or pull the tv off the wall. The headphones have a 6 metre cable , but when I ran it along the floor round the walls, it was just a little short, so I bought an extension wire. Now all the wire is hidden away nicely but when I listen at night, the sound keeps fading in and out. The extension wire was 3 metres. Could it just be too long, or could it be interference from the power cable, or aerial cable as it runs alongside these in trunking?

Okay, I bought an LG LCD HDTV (model 32LC2D), anyway my cable box does not have an HDMI OUT hook-up, but the TV does. I bought a wire that goes from DVI (on the cable-box) to HDMI (on the TV). However, I do not see two seperate analog connections for the audio input. The TV has audio inputs for the two COMPONENT IN's but I don't think I can plug them in there. The manual says to get a "Y" shaped wire with a headphone jack on one side, for the RGB/DVI in, but that doesn't seem right, plus the guy at the store said to just "plug the audio wires in anywhere in the back." I am lost, anyone know if I really need a cheap "Y" shaped connector, just doesn't seem right? Thanks.
