AV senders in my experience provide variable results. The results depend entirely on the equipement you buy and surrounding environmental influences and of course distance.

1 - the more expensive your AV sender, the better it will be. Some cheaper ones require your sender and the receiver to be almost placed next to each other for acceptable results. Totally pointless. Spend the cash and save your frustrasion with less that acceptable results.

2 - Things like walls will impact the distance you can send. Also it depends whats in those walls. If there are pipes (metal) in the walls then the signal will be severly weakened. thick walls also drastically reduce signal quality. The number of other competing RF signals in your area also drastically affect your signal. For example, using a FM transmitter in London (like those for iPod) is pretty much useless as there is a major broadcasting station on nearly every channel. Of course the stronger signal interfers with the one you're trying to send. This applies to AV senders.

3 - Distance. The further it is from the receiver the worse your signal will be. The claimed distance of reception on the box of the AV sender is usually a value in a 'perfect' environment which is line of sight with no obstructions at all and no other competing signals.

They work, but are extremely sensitive to the conditions they're used in. Don't expect digital quality from them..
