I bought this tv and the sales associate told me that there was no difference between an HDTV and an HD-Ready lcd tv. I decided to research it for myself and on the how stuff works website it says that I need an hd tuner to get hdtv. According to this site I will also need an indoor or outdoor antenna! Is this true? I have the hd cable box, is that enough?

Tuners are used to get over the air signals or basic cable, you have a cable box, hence you have no need for a seperate tuner.

Some pretty good information, I might add, The TV does not have a HD tuner built in, this doesn't mean it doesn't have an analog, or digital tuner, if is called a monitor it probably doesn't have a tuner.

The cable box can serve as the HD tuner (if it's HD) and this same box probably has a connection for an outside antenna.

The TV may have a coaxial hookup if so then you probably have a non HD tuner. that will take care of your antenna channels.

In summation you probably will only need an outside/inside antenna.

You will need an HD tuner (your HD cable box) to receive HD programming. Also keep in mind that you will need to subscribe to an HD package as well. Some cable companies also do not offer local channels in HD, so I would check with your provider. If you did not get HDMI or DVI cabling with your tv you would also need to purchase this as well. HDMI will deliver the best overall quality. If you don't have these cables, let me know at a.taylor@onsitesat.com. My store offers them at about half the price as major retailers.

HD ready means that it has all of the necessary components to get HDTV all you need is the signal/antennae. If you have the HD cable box you should be good to go.

yes, if your tv doesn't have an HD tuner built in (and some don't-just another way to lower the price tag) then you will need an external HD tuner to view HD broadcasts (the tuner doesn't apply to HD movies in blu-ray or HD-DVD format, as they are not broadcast signals). Hope this helps!
