virtually everything on the planet emits a *small* amount of radiation...atoms decay....that's life. that's also quite normal. tv sets (cathode ray or otherwise) DO NOT emit any more alpha or gamma radiation than the chair in which you are sitting....

there was an effort to have "quick start" HID lighting (and tv sets) and part of that effort included doping the electrodes with a slightly radioactive isotope of krypton (Kr85)....however unless you were actually *gripping* the cathode (in contact with it) there would be zero effect....this was mainly done to reduce the starting voltage....thus reducing "warm up time".

short answer....get what you want. the LCD screens are nice...but when a pixel goes...it goes....and plasma is fine...but they are also irradiated to reduce excitation potential. overhead projectors are great (i have two....love them...) but they use HID lighting that will (most likely - i know my lamps do...) employ the "pulse start" technology described above.

Get a plasma or LCD, these are quite big.

For larger picture consider using a LCD projector hook to a tv tuner.

I myself is eagerly awaiting for the lauch of laser projection tv which give large picture but uses low current expected 2007.
