i just read this: United States the Federal Communications Commission will be ending Analog (Current Conventional TV Services in 2009.) 2009 will be here in a heart beat and this TV will be HDTV ready. All TV's in the United States that are not HDTV ready by 2009 will go dark IF THEY ARE LIMITED TO ONLY GETTING OVER THE AIR BROADCAST SIGNALS!

So is it true?

Yes, by 2009/2010 all broadcast companies are required to broadcast in digital, but not in HD necessarily. Stations will still be able to broadcast in 480i digital.

All people with the old TV's without digital tuners will require a digital receiver in order to watch TV. By then, it will probably cost $5 for a digital to analog converter.

This might get delayed once again. They were planning to do this in 2006, but it keeps getting delayed because the consumer market is not ready for it.

Yes, I heard this was true also.

Sadly some of the local stations we need or want may be put out of business because of this change - it will be costly for the stations to convert if they have a tight budget.

ADDITIONAL QUESTION TO PONDER:
I wonder what type of affect this change will have on our landfills?
On the education system (the schools will all have to pay to replace their current tv's)
and other fields that we haven't considered?

Pretty much. You will just have to buy a box to recieve the HD channels on your tv. The hd signals come over the air fine.

you will in basic terms desire a digital antenna and a digital converter container (if the television is an older television). probability is that your television helps digital channels, so all you will desire is a digital antenna. Any Radio Shack has them, and that they are decrease priced. you may additionally recover from the air (OTA) HD programming. once you get the antenna, only hook it as much as the cables that run into your place. communicate over with the Radio Shack individuals approximately an amplified antenna; you will get an more suitable image.

they still make cassette tapes.

Even if they do that, all your movies will still work. Just like digital cable, some tv's will need a box to pick them up. They wont eliminate regular tv's all together.
