Oh dear... are you trying to over compensate for other areas er... lacking in your life?
I have 42 inches of pure plasma... Panasonic Viera.... works for me. But then I have an incredibly large living room, and don't live in a council house where these tv's take up the whole room.
Big is not always better in some cases.

most of these clown dont know what they are talking about. ok some do. but its really up to you. the plasma will give you better, more natural color. and the best. crispest clearest picture. but manufaturer is very importat too. id go panasonic they are my #1. or hitach or samsung. now plalmas do use a little more energy and get alittle warmer that lcds. but the picture is better dont believe what any body says. and you dont have to recharge gas, the problems with burn in are very minimal and they last as long as any lcd. but on the other hand lcds are getting better and better and getting close to picture quality. in lcds you should get similiar brands and nothing more and look for the contrast ratio get at least 1200to1 prbably 3000 to 1 or 4000 to 1 would be allot better . and plasmas have high glare screens while lcds have non glare screens. so might not want a plasma if you have allot of glare in your room. so there are pros and cons for both , over all plasmas have a little better picture and response time, but lcds use a little less energy and dont have glare. so what ever is best for your situation but only get those brands or similar , no cheapies. i mean it . . and allot of times salesmen will try to sway you to somthing that will pay them more money so they are not always reliable unless they are not on commision or are trustworthy

good luck

If your going to play video games on your tv, then go with lcd if not I would say it is really up to you. That would really only be the deciding variable. tehy will both look good wioth tv shows and movies. the plasma picture should be slightly better as far as the colors go because the contrast ratio is greater.
As far as some of these posts, don't believe them too much. Manufactuers say the plasma now last 60,000 hours, I wouldn't believe that far a second, but trust me, your not going to lose all of the gas in the tv in 2 or 3 years. Not unless you plan on watching the tv 12 plus hours each day. Yea plasmas get hot that because of the neon and xneon gases, big deal. Also they do still burn in, but you won't notice it. I have burn in on the plasmas where I work and trust me, you cannot see it one bit. The only reason I know is because on smasung plasmas you can turn the screen all white for burn in protection and you can see it, but when you have a show playing, you can't see it at all. Think about it too if you have a looping program that has caused burn in and it has played at least 6 months, you would think the burn in is bad, but it isn't. Don't worry about burn in. As far as plasma goes, I would go with Panasonic, they have had the best plasma for the past couple of year now. LG is also pretty good. I honestly woulnd't get any other plasma.
As far as LCD goes, you'll be better off with it if your going to hookup a video game system to it. LCDs have a lamp life of 60,000 hours. Samsung, sharp, sony are the best in my opinion. Panasonic is not bad either. The only major thing that will happen to an lcd is pixel burnout, it also happens on plasmas too, but lcds are more susitable to it. They also let off heat, but not as much as plasmas do.
Hope this helps.

Plasma is so two/three years ago. LCD tv's are the way forward. I just got a 42 inch LCD after getting advice from a very clued up sales assistant. He decribed in detail about how lcd is much better. Plasma screens suffer from 'burn out' and if you remain on a particular channel for long time can often burn a particular image on to the screen Plamsa is also more fragile to touch. LCD in my opinio has clearer picture and experts suggest have a longer lifetime hope that helps

Oh lordy...is that rumour about plasma TV's losing their gases STILL going around???? I laugh so hard every time I see that....
Plasma TV's, in my opinion, are FAR superior to LCD (and for what its worth, I do actually work in the electronics industry). LCD backlights dim over time and are prone to hot-spotting (uneven light distribution), the pixels are larger and thus spaced further apart, the response time is about 8X slower than plasma (causing trails with fast motion like sports), do NOT last any longer than plasmas, and are TERRIBLE for vertical off-axis viewing. Having said that, LCD technology is getting better but the sheer physics of it are simply inferior. (If you can get a DLP or D-ILA in your budget, that would be the best way to go.) And while it is true that older plasma TV's did suffer burn-in, it is virtually impossible to cause any permanent damage on a new one-most good manufacturers incorporate a pixel-shift technique that has made burn-in a thing of the past. Please note that I said GOOD manufacturers- Pioneer, Fujitsu, Panasonic, and Hitachi are all respectable brands. Samsung is cheap garbage-period. Sony is OK, not great but not terrible.
LCD's will do the job for a lower price but if you're serious about picture quality then forget about them.

Under 42'' are lcd's so if you wanted a 42'' to 50'' it would have to be a plasma. You would have to pay a little more money but sony's are problaly the best kind

LCD, becuase with a plasma, you have to change the plasma every couple of years or so. It also gets really, really hot.

After all of my research online and reading reviews I have concluded that the best (for me) is a Mitsubishi rear projection with the DLP technology. I am getting a 65 inch model as soon as the price comes down just a few more dollars.

LCD
Don't bother with Plasma yet......they are still a few years away from being viable. They lose their gas after two years or so and you are left with an expensive repair or no TV
