I'm trying to launch a seminar/speaking career with less than no financial resources. I'm thinking I'll purchase a used camcorder and tripod off ebay, in order to record myself and edit the demos myself. But I know almost nothing about this.

Any particular advice on features to be sure to get (and why) or to avoid (and also, why) would be appreciated. I'm looking at Mustek DV-5200 SD/MMC Card Digital Camcorder and RCA EZ201 Digital Hard Drive Camcorder as well as a few others that come in for under $100. They seem not to have nearly enough storage (32MB or 512MB) and will need upgrades, but beyond that would they really be that poor a choice, given what I have to do?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge...:-)

What gives better quality footage, MiniDV or DVD camcorders?
I'm mostly worried about quality of footage and not whichever is more convenient to use or more cutting edge.

I recently moved from Los Angeles to Richmond, VA and in Los Angeles there were many local places to rent out video equipment to get a taste of the equipment before committing to buy one. There aren't any video camera rentals locally for me in Richmond, so does anyone have any suggestions on a good reliable camera for video shoots. It will be used for producing music videos, weddings montages, corporate videos, surf videos, etc.

I wanna buy a digital camera. I can not decide wheather to buy a handycam or digital still camera. I am interested in taking small video clippings of kids playing or small parties. I am told that the digital still cameras may also take video shots of about half an hour. What is the difference in the video quality of the actions shot by digital still cameras.

I am making a documentary of myself going to a foreign cuntry, and would like to take footage of myself on the plane, looking out into the window or watching tv. I know you can't use it during take-offs and landings, but just to be positive, is there any risk of trouble? *ie the alarm goes off because of waves from a cell phone

theres a fisheye that has a 37mm thread for digital camera by opteka, but im wondering if it would also work for my video camera which has the same thread size. I don't know if this lens is only for still shots or if it would work for both pictures and videos.

I am in the market for a XL2 and I see that the camera is easily over $3,000 on the internet but yet if you go to DiduPrice.com you can find one for $889. Do you think I can trust to get one for that price? Here is the direct link the the actual store.

What is the cheapest/easiest way to backup data from my cam to the PC. It is digital, but it records movies on some mini-dvm60 digital video cassettes. What should i do? is there any kind of hardware designed for this or i need a video-capture card in my computer? I also read in the instruction manual that photos are stocked on a SD Card or so. Cant i Make it to put videos on it also? btw model : Panasonic NV-GS26.

I have AVI files on my computer of footage I took. I imported it into Windows Movie Maker to make a nice little video to send to friends.
The problem is - the main thing I was trying to focus the camera on is only about the bottom 1/2 of the screen. Is there any way i can get rid of the top half of the footage?
