I do not have a camcorder becasue it is broken so I am wondering if I am able to do this. What would I need to buy?

You can use MiniDV player/recorder. There is no other way

Some awful people would go to a store with a generous return policy, buy a camcorder, use it to transfer the tape to the PC, then return it the next day for a refund. It would be kinder to do this with a demo model, though, so the retailer doesn't eat as much depreciation.

Or you could rent a camcorder someplace. Some cities have non-profit organizations that cater to artists and independent filmmakers that have very reasonable rental rates.

In really you need something to reproduce your mini dv tape like your camera or a mini dv player unfortunately. If its really important and a must you can run down to your local Walgreen and ask them to put it on a DVD to import to your computer. other stores offer this service as well.
