Tape, as in HDV and miniDV, has fixed recording format to allow interchange between players. An SD card, HDD or DVD based camera has more options.

nicely generic def is perhaps what you pick for, at this style of affordable HD isn't probably there yet... maximum cameras in the fee selection, the hd section finally ends up pixelated and has no room for growth. i might advise a Canon HV20/30/40 any style might do... it has a microphone enter, a headphone out, lens attachment features... and looks to be an all around sturdy camcorder. It does record HD yet i might say that's "trustable" because of fact that's HDV (extreme definition dv tapes) that are the generic for top high quality video in the buyer finances! verify it out in case you get of venture!
