I have the JVC GZ-MG21US hard drive camcorder, and I've been trying to move my video onto my laptop. I can find the folder with the videos in it, but they have a .mod extension and are basically unreadable with any media player software I have, even VLC player. I've also tried renaming them to .mpg, but they will play in WMP 11 with no audio. Any ideas?

I have a stash of Hi-8mm tapes I'd like to save to DVD. I read that I need a special box, but is it best to use the s-video from the camera or the tri-colored RCA jacks? What type of software would I be looking for to then read from the camera and save to DVD?

I'm concerned about dust though- I don't want to invest in something too expensive unless it is also dust resistant. Oh, and it doesn't have to be a camcorder- everything will be run through a switcher and on to a VTR- maybe digital...

I was just wondering why the playback on the TV through the MiniDV camcorder has worse quality than when I'm watching it on the LCD? For example my cat is grey with black stripes and when I play the recording back on the TV he's almost solid black, but at the same time I open the LCD and watch the recording and it's showing all his stripes and it looks great. The color and resolution seem to get worse during playback on the TV, why?

Also, which quality will be transfered to my computer for editing? I figured the audio video cables degraded the quality from the recording to the TV, but that was just my guess.

Does anyone know what further leads or cables that I need to produce the sound. I am using a s-video lead to get the pictures.

In a fit, I forced a wrong connector into the DV slot. It is a Sony DCR-TRV22E, when I connect the cable it still says "DV IN" on the Camera screen but it does not get detected by XP, I disconnected the firewire from the PC and the message disapeared, so I dont know what to do. Something seems to be detected by the Camera for the message to show. Everything elese is ok, it is just I can capture video thorough the firewire, and that is what I want to do HELP!!!

I'm looking for a good, reasonably priced, and small camcorder. I'll probably be using it a lot to record my sister's plays, so it will need decent battery life and either good built in memory or to have a memory card slot. Also, I'd like if it was good for capturing movement, and not too grainy. Preferably one without a light on it, or one that's detachable. Any suggestions?
