In a fit, I forced a wrong connector into the DV slot. It is a Sony DCR-TRV22E, when I connect the cable it still says "DV IN" on the Camera screen but it does not get detected by XP, I disconnected the firewire from the PC and the message disapeared, so I dont know what to do. Something seems to be detected by the Camera for the message to show. Everything elese is ok, it is just I can capture video thorough the firewire, and that is what I want to do HELP!!!

Does it look like you have damaged the socket or the cable? Do you have another cable? A normal Firewire cable is a strong thing, but a custom mini-plug at the DV slot might have small pieces that have bent out of shape.

Windows doesn't always play friendly with external devices. Try restarting Windows and then plug the camera in again. It sounds like the camera knows when it is connected to the PC.
Perhaps your video capture software needs to be configured to recognise the camera.

The only thing I can think of is try restarting with the camera on, and if that doesn't work try using the CD that came with the camera and see if it helps at all. Also, you can try getting a new DV cable, and if it doesn't work you can always return it. Similar bad things (damaged monitor cable, to name one) have happened to me too when I freaked out, so I guess the moral of this is stay calm and try to think it through. Hope this helps!
