i dont recommend windows movie maker even though its free. itll compress ur video a lot and when u put it on dvd or play it full screen, itll be very blurry. i use pinnacle studios. adobe premiere is a bit too hard for most people. make sure u have a firewire card and cable to upload. (better than usb since usb sometimes wont allow the software to recognize ur device)

To get started you can use Windows Movie Maker on a PC or iMovie on a Mac. These come standard on the computer. You can find many programs with more features for under $100. Adobe Premier Elements, Pinnacle Studio, and Roxio Videowave are a few examples. You should also install the drivers for your camera. They should be on a CD. The camera may have come with its own to software to capture video.

VirtualDub is FREE and can do the job, however, it will capture your video as a LARGE AVI file.
