I am looking for a relatively inexpensive video camera to take on holidays with me. I know a bit about the types of cameras and stuff, but I am not sure which would be the best type (MiniDV, Hi8, DVD, etc). Could someone please explain the difference (in simpletons terms please!) and advise me on purchasing one? How much should I be expecting to pay realistically? Can anyone suggest a make and model?

Thanks very much,
Jess

I have a Canon HV10 camcorder, and an HP Pavillion Entertainment Notebook that are both equipped with 4-pin firewire outlets. When I first plugged the camcorder in, I heard the hard drive start to think and then saw a little balloon on the bottom right hand corner of my screen that showed it recognized my camcorder, but then nothing after that! And now I don't even get a balloon. The LCD screen on my camcorder shows I'm connected. I've tried several video editing programs, and nothing works. I've read my manual and know the settings are right... I've been having computer problems, so could it be a virus? Please help!

If I want to film outdoors on an island that is overcast almost constantly. One of the reviews for the camera I've been watching says it needs better lighting.
If I bought a small extra light source would that help?

they say it ...well look..

24p Cinema Mode

24p Cinema Mode enables all aspiring moviemakers to achieve a professional "film-look." You can change the camcorder's frame rate to 24p, which provides the same frame rate as movie film. In addition, you can use the HV20's CINE setting, which changes the color and tonal characteristics, evoking the look and feel of a movie shown in a theater. For added flexibility, these settings can be used together or independently.

So if my camera now shoots at 30 frames per second obviously 24 is lower but the p must stand for something else. Does anyone have anything more they can add to help me understand what in the world 24p is and why that is better than 30 fps???

i got a canon ZR 800 Mini Digital Video Camcorder, or whatever {thats what it says on the manual...}

and i figured almost everything out but a couple things.
for the effects, {black and white, mirror, etc.}{beam/puzzle} it wont work. like the screen isnt black and white while im recording or it doesnt have the "beam" effect...

also, can it take pictures, as well?

All of them have pros and cons.
Hard Drive - If it fails, you lose everything and the unit will have to be replaced.
DVD - Does it look good?
Mini DV - Seems kind of antique. Like the VCR tapes.

Canon elura100 has only 20 op zoom whereas Sony DCR-HC38 has 40 op zoom. But it does'nt have a still photo ability, an audio mic out or a a built in light for night shots. All this is available in Canon Elura100. Prize is much higher in Canon Elura than Sony. What is the best buy?

i think my digital camera did something like this but i dont have it or the instructions on hand right now so is this possible like hooking it up to the tv using a cord that came with it (i think mine had this) andrecording
just thought this would make it easier for taking things off video games and putting them on youtube or something without the video being all choppy
thanks!
